Isometric recently released a draft protocol for Improved Forest Management (IFM) along with a Deferred Harvest on Smallholder Lands (DHSL) module and invited public comment as part of its consultation process. These documents aim to expand the scope of carbon removal pathways to include enhanced forest management practices and smallholder-focused harvest deferral, with the goal of increasing carbon storage while maintaining ecological integrity and economic viability for landowners.

At Sky Harvest, we believe that robust protocols—grounded in science, transparent in design, and geared towards integrity—are essential to the credibility and effectiveness of voluntary carbon markets. In alignment with our mission to improve market quality and climate impact, we conducted a detailed review of the draft IFM protocol and DHSL module and submitted formal feedback to Isometric.

Below, we are pleased to share our full feedback submission so that project developers, policymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders can better understand our perspectives regarding how these emerging frameworks can be strengthened to support high-integrity climate impact.
